Identity

The mi mark.

My initials, and “my” in Spanish. Two languages in two letters, drawn with the same restraint I bring to interfaces: one shape, one color, nothing extra.

Construction

Built on a grid.

Every curve and gap comes from one 32-unit rhythm, so the mark holds together at 16 pixels and at 16 feet.

x-heightshoulderbaseline 32 units 32 units dot · r 9.5stem · 14 r 16 / 23
True semicirclesThe shoulders are perfect half circles, so the arch lands exactly on the x-height.
One rhythmStems sit 32 units apart, and the gap before the i matches the counters of the m.
One colorThe dot is the only color in the system. Everything else is ink.
Flat top iThe i stops at the x-height, level with the tops of the arches.

Optical sizes

Three weights, one mark.

A thin stroke disappears at favicon size and a heavy one gets clumsy on a poster, so the mark comes in three optical sizes.

Display

Stroke 12. Posters, title slides, anything over 120 pixels tall.

Text

Stroke 14. The default, for navigation, lockups and documents.

Small

Stroke 18. Favicons and app icons, anything under 32 pixels.

Lockups

With the name.

Clear space

Keep at least one stem width of empty space on every side of the mark, and two in a lockup. The mark sits on the baseline of the name, and its height matches the cap height.

Don’t

Recolor the strokes, put the gradient on anything but the dot, outline it, stretch it, or set the name in a different typeface. The wordmark is SF Pro Display Semibold, with Inter Semibold as the web fallback.

Color

Mixed from the work.

The dot blends one color from each project on this site, in the order you meet them.
